Harvesting vegetables, water, solar power, daylight & view.
Proposed for the decommissioned NYC Department of Sanitation marine transfer station pier, this community center for Harlem Edge/Cultivating Connections is both an urban farm and transportation hub. With outdoor gardens and an all-weather greenhouse and barn, it is a community farm and educational center. Its cafe and pedestrian plaza offer a relaxing place to take in the view for pedestrians, or those arriving by bicycle, small boat, water taxi or bus - conveniently accessed from NY's west side.
Growing its own food, collecting its own irrigation water and generating its own electricity and hot water, Harlem Piers Farm is a true example to the community of all encompassing sustainability.
